97% of all high school basketball players will never play college basketball. What happens to them?

When so many young players have a false expectation of making it to college basketball, they often struggle more to adjust to life after high school. When a child, and their family, whole-heartedly believes an athletic scholarship is a realistic goal, they make sacrifices else wear in the name of that goal. They might miss out on social events, hobbies, and even academic pursuits, while their families may sacrifice their time and money with the expectation that there will be a payoff when it's time to apply to college
